The Kiss
Ogdensburg, NY on the St. Lawrence River | October, 16 2018
Written by Travis Widrick
The day coming closed like the last words of a good book.
The magic sun light dancing in the sky. The river remains at peace for now.
I am there at the banks and become like the current, soft and quiet.
Gratitude holds my hand and with a peaceful exhale asks me "how do you feel?"
I listen for a voice singing in the distance, but there is no song to hear.
The trees on the horizon look like prayers, kneeling down to say please, please, please.
The ripples chase, and roll, but never reach the shore. Some prayers are best left unanswered.
I breathe in deep, open my eyes wide and take in the exquisite canvas before me.
This moment, never again to be seen, never again the same, never to return,
And like life and love and loss the river flows in its own time.
If ever this, there is a Heaven.
If ever exists love, this... Where water and earth come
together to kiss.

Reaching Towards The Heavens
Mt. Denali Alaska | August 8, 2016
Did you know only about 20% who go to see Mt. Denali actually get to see her?
I took this photo propped awkwardly on the seat of the park bus using the window as a tripod for my camera. I had my Canon with a 300 mm lens and we were approximately 60 miles from the base of Mt. Denali.
A big part of being a photographer is about luck and being at the right place at the right time. Many times that means waking up at 4:30 am. This morning back in 2016, according to the bus driver, was the first time in a a whole month that the peak of Mt. Denali was visiable. Most days, she said the clouds cover her up and you can not see her at all. This day though, we were lucky; the stars aligned, the warm morning magic hour light appeared and the clouds slipped away to reaveal the peaks of Mt. Denali in all her glory. She sure was a site to behold.
